How to clean your jewellery! Make the sparkles sparkle!

Jewellery is one of the most treasured accessories a person can own. Ranging from precious metals, shiny gems and even silver-ware, the vast majority of jewellery have one thing in common: SPARKLE.

Now, if you aren't careful with where you where/store your precious items, they can quite quickly become grubby, dusty and dull. Luckily, for the most part, jewellery is easy to clean.

Here are a few ways you can do it!

1. Jewellery Cloth

Sterling silver in particular will tarnish over time, but other precious metals can do the same, including gold of a lower purity. This is a normal process with metal and the tarnish is easy enough to clean off.

If your precious metal jewellery is tarnished, use a precious metal cloth to remove it, (these are in-expensive and can be purchased in-store).

After, give the piece a rinse and carefully dry it to remove any chemical residue.

NOTE: BECAREFUL NOT TO SCRUB TO HARD OR YOU MAY THIN THE LAYER OF PRESCIOUS METAL OR EVEN LOOSEN STONES.

2. Jewellery Dip

Another option to cleaning your jewellery, and often goes well hand in hand with the above, is a jewellery dip of some sort (we recommend Town Talk, sold in-store)

You can use these dips to very quickly and easily remove tarnish from sterling silver or gold. It particularly works well with silver chains which can be difficult to clean with a polishing cloth alone.

NOTE: PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS AND BE AWARE OF WARNINGS.

-DO NOT USE WITH JEWELLERY THAT CONTAINS POUROUS GEMS

3. Give It A Wash

This is the simplest cleaning step to do, but pretty much all jewellery should benefit from it. You might find it's all you need to do for many pieces, particularly for solid gold jewellery or fashion jewellery.

Wash your jewellery with warm water and a gentle colourless and fragrance free liquid soap.

Use a cloth or soft bristled brush to help get grime out of crevices. Be sure not to leave soft gems such as opals or pearls soaking in water for too long as it may affect them.

Once it's clean make sure you rinse it and dry it quickly and well.

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT USE WATER ON SOFT POROUS STONES.
